How AI Almost Made Me Stop Thinking as a Developer

A lot of people might not agree with this, but this is the truth — at least for me. AI can slowly consume your brain once you get addicted to it. You start using it every single day, beginning with simple tasks. Then you think, “Maybe it can handle more complex tasks if I write a good prompt.” At first, you review everything before accepting the code AI generates. But eventually, you might reach a point where you have a deadline, and you just accept everything without reviewing or even really looking at the code.

You might feel a little shocked because all the features you asked for actually work. Slowly, you begin trusting AI to do more and more of your job while you scroll TikTok or do something else. Everything feels fine — until coding itself stops being interesting, because AI can already do it and your work is technically finished. Then you start thinking, “Why should I think so hard if AI can do it for me?” And that’s when the “brainrot” begins.

AI is powerful, but if you can’t control how you use it, it can start controlling you. Using AI feels like getting instant dopamine — and too much instant dopamine isn’t healthy for your brain. This isn’t about AI being bad; it’s about how easily we can rely on it too much. Automation is helpful, but addiction is different. Like many addictions, you might not even realize it’s happening.

So use AI carefully. Don’t become dependent on it — use it when you truly need it, not as a replacement for thinking.
